READING THE HAND LINES
Your hand changes throughout your life. The lines you see in your palm today are not quite the same as they were a year ago and probably very different from five years ago. Although your hand gives an outline of your life, it’s only a tentative
outline. You have the final decision on the course your life will take. Whether you want the position or not, you’re the captain of your own destiny. Palmistry, like a doctor‘s examination, is strictly a diagnostic reading. It can point out the forces that operate within you, and it can point out the logical results of these forces. You can accept them as they are or begin to change them. As with the Tarot, be very careful in your phrasing of what you see in a person’s palm. Some lines may show a particular area in which your subject has very serious problems. This should be presented as “an area of possible weakness and something for which you should be particularly watchful.” On a few occasions you may encounter a particular combination of lines which indicates a premature death. If this is the case, don’t blurt out what you see. Rather, emphasize the need for great care to avoid illness, accidents, violence or whatever the rest of the hand may seem to imply as possible causes. Remember, palmistry is only a diagnosis it’s never a final pronouncement.

As a palmist, your attitude is of great importance. Never try to “second guess” your subject by adding on-the-spot observations and facts you know from beforehand. Only read the palm. Ideally you should know nothing whatsoever about the person you’re reading. Their hands and your intuition should be enough.

By using the Google Groups advanced search options, you can set a posting start and end date for every search query. This way you can go back in time to find the earliest mentions of a celebrity, an idea, a company, or anything else starting from the 1980s. (Like the first mention of pop singer Madonna, or a first discussion about New Coke.) Sometimes, the way people talked about this “new thing” back then is interesting in itself. Also, you can find out about popular
misconceptions, or predictions which are extremely off-target in retrospect. A while ago, Google presented a “best of ” timeline showing off gems from the “golden age of Usenet.” The timeline was created with the help of Jürgen Christoffel, Kent Landfield, Bruce Jones, Henry Spencer, and David Wiseman. Following are portions of this timeline and its postings as well as my own findings.

ON THOSE CLOUDY DAYS, Robert Neville was never sure when sunset came, and
sometimes they were in the streets before he could get back.
If he had been more analytical, he might have calculated the approximate time of their arrival;
but he still used the lifetime habit of judging nightfall by the sky, and on cloudy days that
method didn’t work. That was why he chose to stay near the house on those days.
He walked around the house in the dull gray of afternoon, a cigarette dangling from the corner
of his mouth, trailing threadlike smoke over his shoulder. He checked each window to see if any
of the boards had been loosened. After violent attacks, the planks were often split or partially
pried off, and he had to replace them completely; a job he hated. Today only one plank was
loose. Isn’t that amazing? he thought.
In the back yard he checked the hothouse and the water tank. Sometimes the structure around
the tank might be weakened or its rain catchers bent or broken off. Sometimes they would lob
rocks over the high fence around the hothouse, and occasionally they would tear through the
overhead net and he’d have to replace panes.
Both the tank and the hothouse were undamaged today. He went to the house for a hammer
and nails. As he pushed open the front door, he looked at the distorted reflection of himself in
the cracked mirror he’d fastened to the door a month ago. In a few days, jagged pieces of the
silver-backed glass would start to fall off. Let ‘em fall, he thought. It was the last damned
mirror he’d put there; it wasn’t worth it. He’d put garlic there instead. Garlic always worked.
He passed slowly through the dim silence of the living room, turned left into the small
hallway, and left again into his bedroom.

Programs

There are certain programs that Windows will start every time you
boot up your system, and during the startup phase, they're all
competing for a slice of your CPU speed. Extra or unwanted items
in the startup list will definitely increase your startup time, perhaps
by several minutes. Some common examples are things related to
AOL, RealPlayer, Napster, instant messengers, and video managers.
If you're not sure about an item, no big deal. You can turn it off,
restart your PC, and see if everything seems to work. If not, you can
always go back and re-enable an item in the Startup list. This tip
alone should speed up your start-up by 250%. Here are is what
you have to do:

1. Go to Start button Run
2. Type "msconfig", without quotations
3. Hit enter key or click the OK button
4. A System Configuration Utility window will show up
5. Click the Startup tab
6. In the Startup tab you will see several boxes and some of them
will selected (checked). All you have to do is to uncheck
extra items that are of no use. If you run an antivirus
program it is not recommended to uncheck it.
7. After making you choices press the OK button, you will be
prompted to restart computer to apply changes.
8. After restarting your computer a dialogue will be displayed.
You can check the option for not showing this dialogue every
time your PC reboots.
